District Winery Wedding, Washington, D.C. | Jeanne & Stephen

Jeanne & Stephen tied the knot at a waterfront Washington, DC wedding venue, District Winery. Located in Navy Yard and positioned next to the Nationals Stadium, this DC wedding venue is the perfect location for any Washingtonian. With the charming Jeanne and her beaux Stephen on their paramount August day, beautiful despite the heat! This classy, waterfront Washington, DC wedding venue is basically our vacation home (we wish).

First look at waterfront, District Winery, Washington DC wedding

This Washington, DC waterfront wedding hosted a library of classic colors from cream, gray and green to subtle hints of dark sapphire. Stephen sported his favorite color in a smart blue suit complemented by a blue eryngium boutonniere and navy ribbon.

Jeanne was a natural beauty in her lacy dress and earthy bridal bouquet stuffed with white spray and playa blanca roses. Delicate ranunculus, silver dollar eucalyptus, and a hint of thistle gifted a contemporary edge to this traditional palette. Jeanne also wore a custom floral haircomb we crafted especially for her, studded with carefully curated ornamental flowers. The “I Do Crew” borrowed similar elements with snippets of ruscus and olive branch. Before the ceremony, our couple snagged some truly gorgeous first look shots by the pier (Jeanne’s little twirl!).

We are all about asymmetry and were hyped when the couple was on board for this glorious, towering arch which ascended into space and collected opposite in a sea of candles and lanterns. Lush swaths of bush ivy swept up bobbing ivory rose heads, sprigs of white stock, waxflower, and curling snapdragon. The ethereal journey forward was marked with sprawling bundles of eucalyptus and flowers.

One of our favorite things about Washington, DC weddings is the deep love for the city we so often see on proud display. When Washingtonians plant roots in these historic streets, they’re never shy about sharing their stories and sentiments attached to this national bedrock of progress and inquiry. Jeanne and Stephen identified their guest tables with popular Washington, DC locations and attractions, such as The Smithsonian, Eastern Market, Judiciary Square, Takoma Park, and U Street.

Another aspect of this waterfront, DC wedding, which we really appreciated was the couple’s decision to hire black-owned business for ALL of their vendors! It’s important to represent the contributions and achievements of minorities, especially in a region as ethnically and culturally unique as the Washington, DC metro area: our very own Gaithersburg clocked in at number FOUR on a list of most diverse cities in America. With gentrification on the rise, it’s become increasingly difficult for entrepreneurs of color to get their foot in the door and showcase their skills, so kudos to you Jeanne and Stephen for utilizing your special day to show black-owned businesses some love.

Stephen requested just a hint of blue in their fairly neutral color scheme which was fun sneaking into our predominantly white and green design. The elegant wood tables received navy runners richly topped with smilax and candles pulsing in cylinder vases. Blue taper candles in gold candlesticks were spotted on the sweetheart table within the sea of a wild garland, thickened with eucalyptus, roses, snapdragon, anemone and eryngium (thistle). Eryngium or “Sea Holly” is a plant who hasn’t made a guests appearance on this blog thus far, but its handsome complexion floating somewhere between soft indigo and slate violet expressed via a distinctive spiky profile proved quite enchanting. In floriography, these small starry buds signify “admiration”.

Each guest was seated to a leafy olive branch gracing their plates at the family-style table. The olive branch is known iconically as a symbol of peace throughout various parts of the world, and it’s that visual language of sentiment we strive to capture in every design. The socially-conscious Jeanne and Stephen imparted in us our own admiration of their love for friends, family, and neighbors in their bid for peace.
